Abstract
Background: Auditory hallucinations are the most common type of hallucinations found in patients with schizophrenia. They often cause individuals to exhibit aggressive behavior such as anger, feelings of distress, inability to carry out basic daily activities, social withdrawal, and even risk of suicide. Objective: To analyze the effectiveness of horticultural therapy in reducing auditory hallucinations in patients at West Kalimantan Provincial Mental Hospital. Method: A case study was conducted on a patient (Mr. M) with auditory hallucinations. The intervention provided was horticultural therapy, consisting of simple gardening activities carried out for three consecutive days. Each session lasted approximately 45 minutes and was facilitated by a psychiatric nurse using a therapeutic approach. Conclusion: Horticultural therapy was effective in reducing auditory, engagement in real activities, and the patient’s readiness for social reintegration. These findings support the use of horticultural therapy as part of a holistic approach in psychiatric nursing care. Recommendation: Horticultural therapy should be integrated into rehabilitation programs for psychiatric patients in healthcare facilities. Further research with larger sample sizes is needed to examine its effectiveness more broadly and in the long term.
Keywords: Horticultural Therapy, Auditory Hallucinations.
