Abstract

Background: Anxiety and depression are emotional mental disorders that are prone to attack
students' lives. There are many problems faced by final year students, for example material
assignments, not understanding the material, piling up assignments, unsatisfactory GPA scores,
supervisors, and the thesis writing process can be problems for final year students, including RPL
program students. Resilience acts as a strategy to prevent depression, anxiety and stress. Therefore,
in facing various problems and demands from the environment, every student needs the ability to be
tough (resilient) naturally, so that the individual can survive in difficult situations without having to
experience mental disorders.
Objective: to determine the relationship between resilience and anxiety and depression in RPL
students in preparing their final assignments.
Method: This research uses a correlative descriptive method which aims to describe facts related
to the population and detect any relationship between the independent variable and the dependent
variable. Respondents were 183 people with inclusion criteria, namely RPL students majoring in
nursing who were actively studying at educational institutions in West Kalimantan who were
currently preparing their final assignments. This research uses total sampling and the data
collection period starts from April 2024. The instruments used are the Connor Davidson Resilience
Scale (CD-RISC) 25, Hamilton Rating Scale For Anxiety (HAM-A) and Beck Depression Inventory
(BDI). The data analysis used was bivariate analysis using the Gamma test.
Results: The majority of respondents experienced moderate anxiety (55.2%), while for the level of
depression the majority of respondents experienced mild depression (50.3%) and at the level of
resilience the majority of respondents had a moderate level of resilience (49.7%).There is a
significant relationship between resilience and anxiety (p value = 0.003) and there is a significant
relationship between resilience and depression (p value = 0.006) in RPL students who are currently
preparing their final assignment. The higher the resilience, the lower the anxiety and depression
experienced by RPL students.
Discussion: In preparing their final assignment, RPL students need high resilience to avoid anxiety
and depression. RPL students who have high resilience are less likely to experience anxiety and
depression. RPL students must strive to increase their self-resilience.
Conclusion: It is hoped that the results of this research can inform educational institutions to be
able to detect early the mental health of RPL students who are currently preparing their final
assignments, so that they can collaborate between mental nurses, supervisors and psychologists to
provide comprehensive support to RPL students .
